This contribution presents a Reflexive Grounded Theory study of the Palestinian practice of oral transmission that I conducted in Jordan, Palestine and Israel. Retracing translation-related strategies, I reflect upon challenges, approaches and benefits within the process of translation. Different emerging topoi are exemplified and discussed, shedding light on exploring a language-based practice through language, internal multilingualism and metaphorical concepts. Drawing attention to the effects of divergent narratives and asymmetrical power relations on translation, I advocate safe spaces and peer coaching as means to provide belonging and solidarity and thus facilitate the accomplishment of multilingual and intercultural translation within a complex and tense field. Finally, my experience when presenting my work at conferences gives rise to a reflection on translation as an unfinished project.
