The imaging of dental foreign bodies such as implants, fillings, dental prostheses, and root canal treated teeth is primarily a dental task. However, in everyday clinical practice, radiologists are also confronted with findings and foreign bodies in the jaw and teeth, mostly as incidental findings in CT scans of the skull or paranasal sinuses, or in full-body images. Dental foreign materials include fillings, partial and full crowns, post teeth, and dental implants, and orthodontic braces and dental prostheses are often in the image section. Radiologists should be familiar with typical complications that can occur with dental prostheses/dental implants. Knowledge of anatomy and typical dental medical products is necessary for the diagnosis. This chapter aims to provide the medical radiologist with a roughly orienting, anatomically correct description of dental foreign bodies and the (suspected) diagnosis of typical complications.
