Drug pumps ensure a constant amount of active substance in the patient through continuous drug application. This chapter presents the functioning of various pump systems and demonstrates their representation in imaging diagnostics using numerous X-ray and CT images. These systems are used, for example, in Parkinson’s therapy, as insulin pumps in diabetes mellitus, and for the application of Baclofen in spasticity. The second part deals with stimulation methods for pain therapy, for deep brain stimulation (DBS) in Parkinson’s disease and depression as well as epilepsy, and for the stimulation of the N. hypoglossus (“tongue pacemaker”) and sacral neurostimulation. In addition, the article discusses the MRI suitability of the systems as well as possible complications and their representation in radiological diagnostics.
