This chapter introduces the three research manuscripts forming the empirical core of this thesis, each grounded in Upper Echelons Theory and investigating the influence of managerial characteristics on finance-related firm outcomes. Following this overview, the chapter outlines the positivist research paradigm underpinning all three studies, discussing its key ontological, epistemological, and methodological implications for the conducted research.
