This chapter introduces the main partial differential equation (PDE) used to model wind flow in gas giants, the Euler equation. This equation is then simplified using some further assumptions on the structure of the planet. At the end of the chapter the Euler equation is linearized around a background state.

摘要

This chapter introduces the main partial differential equation (PDE) used to model wind flow in gas giants, the Euler equation. This equation is then simplified using some further assumptions on the structure of the planet. At the end of the chapter the Euler equation is linearized around a background state.
