This chapter discusses approaches in norm research that focus on the contestation of norms, i.e., their challenge or rejection by various actors. It addresses questions regarding the robustness and legitimacy of norms in the face of ongoing contestation. In addition, it presents an explicitly power-critical approach to norms research that questions many of the assumptions of the approaches already addressed in the chapters before, characterising them as exclusionary.
