Reviewing this research project, what can we conclude? Considering all the opinions, judgments, and agreements examined in the context of the disappearing islands, the question may arise whether these complex considerations even make sense. We have not yet found a solution in the combination of the principle of preservation of baselines or outer limits so that the legal status of an island, accordingto Article 121 (1) UNCLOS, can be maintained. Can we not simply close the discussion on the principle “once an island, always an island?”
