This chapter describes the theoretical tools helping to frame and guide this research project. The focus is on understanding and explaining how the Hidden Champions participating in this research project apply and disseminate Supply Chain Risk Management processes within their organisations, and how supply chain partners participate in these processes. The author addresses these questions by adopting the supply chain practice view, a newly developed approach that embraces several theories used in supply chain management research compensating for the shortcomings of those theories by spanning across organisational boundaries. The novelty of the supply chain practice view offers the opportunity to understand and explain significant problems in supply chain management research from a perspective including the actors contributing to the supply chain.
