Sameness and Otherness in Paraguay: Language Identities in German Schools
摘要
Since 1992, Guarani has been an official language in Paraguay beside Castellano. As a multiethnic and multicultural country, Paraguay is home to 19 indigenous languages from five language families and five immigrant languages, of which German is one of the most important (Ethnologue, 2021). The Chaco region, in particular, is characterised by linguistic diversity, partly due to the presence of a ‘German-language island’ (Rosenberg, 2023), as Mennonites have lived in this region since the 1920s.
