This chapter outlines how I investigate the intergenerational transformation of family perspectives and practices in Turkey. Emphasizing the family’s significance across political, economic, cultural, and social spheres, the study examines both the broader social context of family life and how individuals and generations interpret, negotiate, and strategize within it. The research focuses on uncovering shared assumptions about the family, the implicit meanings that shape everyday life, and the ways social norms are reproduced or transformed through daily practices. The data consist of 28 family interviews—conducted with three generations together—and 28 individual youth interviews carried out in six cities.

摘要

This chapter outlines how I investigate the intergenerational transformation of family perspectives and practices in Turkey. Emphasizing the family’s significance across political, economic, cultural, and social spheres, the study examines both the broader social context of family life and how individuals and generations interpret, negotiate, and strategize within it. The research focuses on uncovering shared assumptions about the family, the implicit meanings that shape everyday life, and the ways social norms are reproduced or transformed through daily practices. The data consist of 28 family interviews—conducted with three generations together—and 28 individual youth interviews carried out in six cities.
