In this chapter, I explain the significance of abiotic and biotic factors as well as resources for organisms. Furthermore, I attempt to show how populations are generally regulated, depending on which of these factors is of importance. Here, I aim to highlight the overriding significance of resource availability as the key to understanding the occurrence and distribution of organisms.
