The concluding chapter evaluates the effectiveness of governance-related aid, amounting to nearly USD 480 billion since 2000. Contrary to post-development critiques, evidence shows donor support has not produced harmful effects, though impact is mixed. Good governance is affirmed as a globally grounded, not exclusively Western, agenda. Donor–recipient alignment and ownership are now central, shaped by the SDGs. While gender equality and human rights remain unevenly realised, governance support is shown to be relevant and embedded in national contexts, though transformative breakthroughs remain elusive.
