From Representation to Reception: Galatasaray in Turkish Media and Intellectual Discourse
摘要
This chapter examines the representation and reception of Galatasaray High School in Turkish print media discourse after the establishment of Republic of Türkiye on October, 29, 1923. Primarily sourced from Turkish newspapers, this chapter traces how Galatasaray has been perceived, debated and contested by various actors in media. Since Galatasaray graduates historically held significant influence in Turkish media, their voices were prominently featured, giving them the opportunity to shape public discourse. Through these analyses, the chapter highlights how the school’s Ottoman heritage and transregional legacy continued to shape its reception and symbolic role throughout the 20th century.
