Building on the previous chapters’ exploration of the motivations behind Galatasaray’s establishment and the key figures involved in its early development, this chapter shifts its focus to the ways in which Galatasaray was represented in global media discourse. The analysis centers on how this novel innovation was framed by different imperial powers across various cultural and historical contexts. This chapter examines its role as an active participant in transimperial exchanges, analyzing how its educational reforms, particularly Galatasaray’s foundation, were perceived, contested or appropriated by other imperial powers. Spanning from the establishment of the Galatasaray Medical School in 1838 to the early decades of the Turkish Republic, the chapter traces how the institution was represented across a century of transformation. By analyzing French, British, and U.S. newspapers through a transimperial lens, it identifies shifting discourses that reveal changing power relations and cultural rivalries. The chapter demonstrates that Galatasaray was a contested transimperial space shaped by competing narratives of cooperation, competition and influence.
