This chapter summarizes the research methodology used to collect and analyze data for this study and outlines the analytical frameworks and approaches I used. Before beginning the research for this study, I knew from over 10 years of working on ICT4D and grassroots social innovation projects that there was a rich diversity to critical grassroots innovation. The networks I had built and the hands-on understanding of the projects I gained during this time improved this study. However, my earlier observations needed to be justified scientifically. The research questions focus on understanding the plurality, processes, and knowledge production of grassroots critical maker communities in the Global South.
