The objective of this chapter is to provide an understanding of the research paradigm, comprising ontology, epistemology, axiology and the methodology derived from these. This will facilitate the collection and analysis of data and justify the chosen approach. Guba and Lincoln (1994) posit that both quantitative and qualitative research can be employed with any research paradigm, but it is of the utmost importance to have a clear understanding of the benefits and limitations of the chosen paradigm in the context of the study.
