The COVID-19 pandemic and rapid digitalization have significantly transformed foreign language education, particularly for less commonly taught languages such as Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian in the German-speaking world. This paper explores how these changes created new opportunities for both learners and educators, by expanding access, diversifying teaching methods, and enhancing materials. Drawing on practical experiences from institutions like the University of Oldenburg and adult education centers (Volkshochschulen), the paper discusses the transition from traditional classroom settings to digital platforms. It also highlights the development of innovative learning tools, including YouTube video lessons, digital textbooks, interactive platforms, and simplified literary materials. While acknowledging the limitations of online teaching, such as reduced social interaction and technical challenges, the paper concludes that digital methods offer a valuable and lasting complement to traditional language instruction, and may even shape the future of foreign language learning in a positive direction.
