Both in Germany and across Europe, Islamic organizations have not yet been systematically integrated into disengagement and deradicalization programs. There is a lack of understanding about the necessary conditions for successful inclusion, emphasizing the need for research on how to involve these organizations in prevention efforts. A key challenge for Islamic associations is the professionalization of their structures, especially in terms of the skills required for participation in disengagement and deradicalization initiatives. The capabilities of Islamic organizations in managing radicalized individuals have been overestimated in professional discussions. Furthermore, their involvement in such initiatives carries a significant risk of stigmatization, creating a delicate balance between their regular work and potential roles in disengagement and deradicalization efforts. While there is currently no strong evidence supporting the structural integration of Islamic associations into these programs, in certain cases, collaborating with individual organizations and utilizing their expertise may be a practical approach.
