This chapter offers theoretical tools to reflect on the topic of urban quality of life through the lens of family migration. The Capability Approach by Amartya Sen and Martha Nussbaum, as further developed in sociology and urban studies, supports the reflection beyond assimilation on accessibility of urban places and services on the one hand, on individual aspirations and interests on the other hand. While using their neighborhood of residence and the city of Vienna, the participant EU-migrant families from Hungary and Italy transferred competences acquired in different contexts, met discrepancies which boosted their learning processes and appropriated the spaces to make them familiar. The chapter shows that the presence of children reinforces the importance and the learning potential of the neighborhood dimension.
