Morality and Trust
摘要
This contribution examines the relationship between morality and trust from an ethical and moral-psychological perspective. Starting from an analysis of everyday experiences of trust and breaches of trust, it explains how human beings, as inherently cooperative creatures, are fundamentally vulnerable, and how trust is directed toward the practice of successful cooperation in the face of uncertainty and ambiguity. Trust serves to reduce complexity, stabilize expectations, and create new opportunities for action among interaction partners. The practice of trust follows its own normative logic, which is associated with specific moral requirements and social sanctions. It is based on moral assumptions of meaning and the fundamental recognition of the dignity of others.
