Trust and Distrust in the Context of Current Societal Challenges—Two Central Psychological Regulators
摘要
Research on trust and mistrust is gaining significant attention in light of current debates on transformation processes in a world that is (at least subjectively) perceived as increasingly complex. Trust is now widely recognized as a central resource for coping with multifaceted or even threatening societal scenarios. Accordingly, this contribution highlights questions regarding the correlates of appropriate complexity reduction, relates them to the dynamics of trust and mistrust, and examines them within the conceptual framework of differential trust and mistrust theory. In addition, paradigmatic premises and their implications for research and practice are discussed.
