The following chapter aims to provide a systematic overview of the existing empirical literature on the use of human resource information systems in the field of personnel development, in order to subsequently position the research interest and objective of this study within the academic discourse. Sect. 3.1 first summarizes the findings of empirical research in a systematic and structured manner, before Sect. 3.2 concludes with a summary of the current state of research and an outline of the starting points for the empirical investigation.
