After the last chapter has clarified how perceptions of electoral integrity relate to other conceptually close attitudes, this chapter will summarize the aim of the dissertation project, outline some gaps in research and formulate the guiding research questions. To ensure that this project is a continuation and advancement of existing research, this project will draw on past research and theories in the field whenever applicable as a basis for any theoretical expectations. Thereby, the project synthesizes existing approaches and critically re-tests their findings using a refined conceptualization and measurement instrument to assess electoral integrity.
