Citizens’ perceptions of electoral integrity are a specific set of political attitudes. Following Eagly and Chaiken’s (1993, 1) social psychological definition, an attitude is defined as “a psychological tendency that is expressed by evaluating a particular entity with some degree of favor or disfavor”. In this tradition, it can be understood as an internal bias which predisposes an individual toward positive or negative evaluations of an attitude object and can be activated by the presence of the attitude object or cues related to it.
