This chapter presents the theoretical foundations necessary for understanding the thesis. In combination with the state of the art and technology developed in Chapter 3, this chapter serves to justify the research gap. It begins with an explanation of the topics processes and process management. This is followed by a presentation of the fundamentals of production theory, which serve both to theoretically position the study and to develop the methodology. To take current developments into account, the industrialization of the construction industry is explained at the end of this chapter.
