It is in fact all the more crucial to have physical memorials in physical space because they create a meaningful place for political activism, because they increase the assigned value of the commemorated narratives, and—maybe most importantly—because they allow visitors to make the narratives relevant to their own lives by being present at the site and actively engaging with it.
