While the ontological approach with object-oriented ontology defined some basic concepts and discussed the basic positions of the work, the present systemic approach prepares the development of a social science theory of contradictions—the theory of the so-called contradiction-assemblage. For this purpose, two theories are linked that, despite their different developmental lines, share central assumptions and complement each other: Assemblage theory and complexity theory(ies). While complexity-theoretical approaches are already being discussed in communication studies, but still lead a niche existence, the introduction of assemblage theory into communication studies represents a completely new theory import.
