Challenges and Opportunities in Reskilling and Upskilling
摘要
The digital transformation has accelerated the pace of skill obsolescence, placing reskilling and upskilling at the forefront of workforce development. This chapter examines current trends, challenges, and opportunities inherent in this shift, with a particular focus on the risks of a “skills trap” and the social inequalities that can arise in reskilling and upskilling initiatives. It explores sustainable training and development as a strategy to address and mitigate these disparities. Additionally, the chapter delves into the evolving landscape of higher education, analyzing the trends of “unbundling” and “rebundling” alongside the growing prominence of micro-credentials. It argues for the integration of these innovative educational models within traditional systems, emphasizing the need for standardization and interoperability to enhance effectiveness and accessibility. A key focus is diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace. The chapter examines challenges related to age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and disability, offering evidence-based strategies for fostering inclusive work environments. It contends that organizations with strong DEI training strategies not only fulfill ethical imperatives but also drive economic benefits.
