This chapter reflects on the disconnect between externally led planning and policy, on the one hand, and local, everyday imaginaries and practices, on the other. We argue that urbanism “from above,” as manifest in policy and planning, must take into account perspectives “from below”—those of ordinary people, which are often neglected in Lahore’s urban planning processes. To this end, we introduce the notion of “city\scape” and engage with selected residents’ daily rhythms and urban lifeworlds to explore the “lived” and “imagined” urban spaces of Lahore, in contrast to dominant academic and policy-driven narratives. Looking ahead, we urge the need to further explore the detected city vision divide: the gap between the city\scapes that reflect residents’ everyday urbanism on the one hand, and the top-down city visions translated into planning practices like master plans on the other.
