Milton J. Bennett: Interculturality as a Developmental Process
摘要
The US-American interculturalist Milton J. Bennett contributes significantly to the interdisciplinary development of the field of intercultural communication through his constructivist and humanist-oriented research. The emphasis is on the practical and forward-thinking approach to research, which encompasses concepts such as empathy, sympathy, ethnorelativism, and intercultural sensitivity. Of particular note is his Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity, which serves as a phase model for the classification, development, and mediation of intercultural competencies. Depending on the competence level of the participants, intercultural training programs can be designed to meet their specific needs. Bennett’s research is not only well-received by an academic audience but also finds application in practice.
