This chapter investigates the extent and manner in which road traffic accidents occur and under what circumstances road users suffer damage. Accident research encompasses the three sub-areas of accident survey and statistics, accident reconstruction, and accident analysis. The competence and responsibility of accident research is to clarify the causes that lead to an accident. From this explanation, insights can be derived, the implementation of which in technology, medicine, and psychology contributes to improving the safety of road traffic.
