In the sixth chapter, the discourse of conservatism produced by conservative intellectuals in novels is analyzed through the themes of time-space and the body, in accordance with the analytical framework and theoretical approach. In selecting the novels or authors based on these themes, both the influence of the authors and their novels, as well as the degree of representation, were taken into account. All the selected novels from the 2000s were bestsellers that received various awards. For the 1950s, I analyze novels such as Peyami Safa’s Yalnızız (1951), Samiha Ayverdi’s İstanbul Geceleri (1952), and Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar’s Saatleri Ayarlama Enstitüsü (1954). For the 2000s, I focus on İskender Pala’s Babil’de Ölüm İstanbul’da Aşk (2002), Cihan Aktaş’s Bana Uzun Mektuplar Yaz (2003), and Mustafa Kutlu’s Huzursuz Bacak (2008). This chapter provides a nuanced understanding of how time, space, and the body serve as analytical lenses for exploring conservative cultural narratives in Turkey.
