The central focus of this chapter is on how the Democrat Party (DP) and the Justice and Development Party (AKP) have employed conservative discourses and policy measures to establish or sustain political hegemony. A key trend identified is the broader shift from inclusive and democratic rhetoric toward increasingly anti-democratic practices and polarizing narratives. For both parties, core ideological strategies include the instrumentalization of religion for political purposes and systematic interventions in the media landscape. In the case of the AKP, family and gender policies have emerged as prominent and distinctive components of its conservative agenda. Furthermore, the incorporation of Ottomanism—or its contemporary articulation as neo-Ottomanism—is essential to the analysis, given its significant role in shaping cultural policy and discourse.
