My doctorate is in education, and my thesis was an autoethnography which used participatory research methods. The community I wrote my thesis about is a community of connected learners called CLMOOC (Connected Learning Massive Open Online Collaborative) who work collaboratively in the open (CLMOOC, n. d.). Our practices are based on principles of remix, which we also refer to as bricolage, and it is this community that has most influenced me since I joined the community eight years ago. Henry Jenkins refers to remix activities such as zine making as do it yourself (DIY) (Jenkins, 2010). In DIY, craftsmen typically use materials that they already have and reuse them in order to make a new artefact. I have adapted the practices from this community to develop my own methodological approach, which I call bricolage (Honeychurch, 2023).
