In modern society, species knowledge and nature experience are increasingly declining. As an approach to promote species knowledge, this study analyzes the method of 5-minute biology and derives its influence on a changed nature contact. By using a series of 5-minute biology on native tree species, the species knowledge of students (10‒12 years, N = 139) could be increased from 25% correct identifications to 67% immediately after the completion of the series (p < .001, r = .70). Even after 2.5 months, an effect could still be measured with 35% correct identifications (p < .001, r = .40). Interview data suggest an increased everyday nature contact of the participants due to the acquired species knowledge. In addition, particularly effective design features of the 5-minute biology for species knowledge transmission could be derived from the interview data.
