Against the backdrop of the dramatic loss of biodiversity and biomass in insects, nature education programs have been designed to promote young peoples' interest in local insects as well as their appreciation for those animals. This article addresses the question of how direct interaction with insects during outdoor excursions affects the development of interest in young people. How should such nature contacts be initiated, accompanied, and designed to positively influence educational processes? The analysis of our own educational programs with the Bonn Biodiversity Mobile (BoBi) provides detailed insights into the design features of the learning environment relevant to the development of interest: Positively perceived nature experiences and the fulfillment of basic psychological needs (Basic needs) are essential prerequisites for developing an interest in insects. Other key factors include self-directed biological working methods, the diversity of the observed insect groups, the diversity of the places visited, and conspicuous, extraordinary, or rare species. The study shows how educational processes can be successfully initiated by promoting interest and how nature experience acts as a catalyst in this process.

摘要
