As a flagship-species, bees have become a symbol of an anthropogenically altered environment. They have long served as a model organism for the class of insects in biology lessons. As the world’s third most important agricultural animal species, they are also well-suited for teaching ecological, systemic, and global interrelations in the context of environmental education, climate change education, as well as education for sustainable development. This chapter presents studies indicating that both, short- and long-term nature experiences with honey bees and wild bees positively impact  children's and adolescents' interest in nature, their connection with nature, as well as  their willingness to act for environmental and species protection. Other results presented here also provide justification for including bees in environmental education programs in schools and non-formal settings alike.
