The 4th wave of the technical revolution, digitalization, does not remain without consequences for the social economy. Companies are becoming more “digital” and interfaces for automatic process handling are increasingly being created. In client work, appointments can be attended from any location using digital communication tools and no longer require continuous presence. Traditional services such as meal delivery face competition from new market participants, and education and training as well as work with seniors are supported by virtual reality. Against the backdrop of these significant changes, various manifestations of digitalization in the social economy are highlighted. An outlook on further development and critical theses on future design provide indications of the challenges that can be expected for companies and employees in the social economy.
