Leadership in the Context of Conscription
摘要
The matter of leadership is one of the most important issues for the armed forces. Lack of good leadership can disorganize the organization and even its ability to perform its assigned functions, which might put the tasks in danger. Good leadership is equally important in training and exercises as well as crisis response and constitutes numerous benefits to enhance organizational performance in all situations from peace- to wartime conditions. At the individual level, the quality and combination of a leader's professional competences, general abilities, and personal characteristics determines how much that particular leader will be respected. The aim of the chapter is to explore leadership from the perspective of the conscripts. Although leadership is a well-studied topic, the literature on leadership from the perspective of conscripts is fragmental. We study the conscripts’ assessments of current leadership based on whether the conscripts’ platoon leader was a professional military or a conscript.
