Technologies of the Self
摘要
Friedrich Nietzsche’s quotation from “Menschliches, Allzumenschliches” (1878) already points to some moments that are significant in connection with the technologies of the self. In this middle phase of his work, which is determined by positivism, he addresses the abilities that a human being—who is referred to here by the metaphor of the artist—must possess. One must understand the artist here as a craftsman who, on the one hand, must master his τέχνη and, on the other, display originality in order to become a master of his discipline.
