In the AT welding process, the Thermit-mixture (comprising finely powdered iron(III) oxide: \(\text {Fe}_{2}\text {O}_{3}\) , aluminium: Al and other alloying elements to improve the mechanical properties of the weld metal) undergoes an exothermic redox reaction. In this reaction aluminium acts as the reducing agent, leading to the reduction of iron oxide to iron metal \(\text {Fe}\) at high temperatures.

摘要
