The feminist perspective on architecture and urban planning still occasionally elicits old-fashioned reactions from relevant quarters, such as: “It’s mainly about pink bike paths and sidewalks suitable for high heels…” Of course, one can dismiss these comments with a weary smile; however, exposing the prevailing approaches to urban planning as androcentric, i.e., male-dominated, is a serious matter. “Urban planning ignores everyone who is not an able-bodied man in a car” is an exaggerated, but fundamentally accurate analysis.
