To a question asking why some people from the Turkish community in Germany attach importance to politicians from Turkey paying visits to their community, an interviewee of Turkish origin from Keupstraße, a renowned Turkish quarter in Cologne, answers with the statement above in a short documentary by Deutsche Welle (DW) in 2017. Such statements are anything but rare to hear within the Turkish community in Western Europe. A sense of not being heard enough by the politicians of their countries of residence is widely shared among many Turkish migrants while many feels acknowledged, instead, by political actors in Turkey.
