This volume summarizes scientific discourses on age(ing), gender, and sports-related health concepts and presents qualitative research results on subjectivity in old age considering the structural categories of gender and class. The results include, on the one hand, the positioning of opportunities and the empowerment gains of bodywork for older people through fitness training and, on the other hand, also point to the flip side: social policy activation programs, scientific study results on sports and health as well as societal fitness norms and body ideal images that can also be perceived as social pressure and as a duty and obligation for self-measurement and self-design.
