This chapter presents the grid-side characteristics and the voltage/current (V/I) control of voltage source converters (VSCs). In Sec. 5.1, the hierarchical control structure of VSCs and the functional chain to realize desired grid-side characteristics are explained. After discussing possible options of grid-side characteristics in a generalized symmetrical components equivalent circuit, the calculation of reference variables is presented in Sec. 5.2.
