This chapter aims to consolidate the foundations, that have been given in the previous and provide a comprehensive overview of various approaches to tackle the task of MER. In Sect. 5.1, different classification methods for MER approaches are introduced. Section 5.2 presents a selection of notable research studies in the field of MER and Sect. 5.3 focuses on the pre-trained music understanding model MERT.
