Flying High or Flying Low? A Sector Analysis of High ESG and Low ESG Portfolios of US Stocks

Simply put, ESG investing, or socially responsible investing (SRI) seeks to take advantage of the assumption that stocks with high ESG ratings outperform stocks with low ESG ratings. This goes along with the imputation that companies operating under an ESG-conscious regimen in general act more responsibly and long-term oriented. The fact that many banks and other financial institutions continue to assign entire investment teams to ESG investing practices implies that this assumption must be correct.
