Step 4: Deciding

The success or failure of unification efforts depends primarily on the good will of team members. Therefore, this chapter focuses on how to awaken and harness the overwhelming power of good will. The moment of agreement, that brief moment, is the “big bang” of the sense of unity. This chapter does not hold out hope for today’s “win-win” solutions. They are rare exceptions. Usually there are winners and losers. Good will helps to deal with this. Finally, this section also answers the question of what leadership must do when the search for consensus fails.
