The Indian Climate Policy Identity and its Gendered Components

This chapter provides a monumental ecofeminist hegemony analysis of the Indian climate change discourse from 2010 to 2021. The groundwork is laid through a detailed examination of India’s climate change discourse up to 2010. Although not exhaustive, this overview provides crucial historical context for understanding the gendered patterns that emerge in the subsequent detailed analysis, which spans a huge number of discussed strands and actors. The findings of the ecofeminist hegemony analysis of the Indian climate change policy discourse will illuminate the strategies and demands that have contributed to specific hegemonic formations within the discourse and the resulting identity which is partly used to justify and legitimise India’s climate change policy. The critical discussion of India’s gendered climate policy identity stresses the importance of hegemony and how it is used to shape climate policy.
