Research Design

This chapter establishes the theoretical foundation of the study, integrating hegemony analysis with poststructuralist approaches to ecofeminism to explore the gendered climate policy identities of India and the European Union. By enhancing Martin Nonhoff’s hegemony analysis with ecofeminist perspectives, this innovative approach allows the systematically deconstruction of gendered discourse elements and subject positions within climate policy discourses. Judith Butler’s theory of subjectivation is introduced to address individual and group subject positions, enriching the later analysis. The chapter also outlines the research design of the study, including the conceptual framework that connects the various elements of discourse, subject positions and hegemony, providing a comprehensive approach in order to understand the construction and stabilisation of the climate change policy identities of different entities such as national states and regional organisations.
